Korporal heading to regional in front of hometown fans

Huntington North senior Danielle Korporal grabbed the sixth and final qualifying spot for regional in the floor exercise at the Concordia Lutheran Gymnastics Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Korporal scored a 9.350 to edge out Erica Xayarath of Fort Wayne for the final spot on floor to earn a chance to compete in front of the hometown fans next Saturday at the Huntington North High School Gymnastics Regional.

The Lady Vikings finished sixth out of 13 teams at the sectional, compiling 101.000 points. Fort Wayne Carroll won the team title with a score of 111.775.

Senior Brianna Bates finished in the top 10 in two events and led HNHS in the all-around with a score of 34.350, which earned her 13th place. The senior took eighth on the balance beam with a mark of 8.725 and was ninth on the vault with a score of 9.100.

As a team, HNHS scored 26.850 on vault, 26.700 on floor, 25.175 on beam and 22.275 on bars.

Korporal backed up Bates on the vault by tying for 16th with a tally of 8.900, and sophomore Aleah Eckert added an 8.850 for 20th place.

Bates added an 8.725 for 19th place on the floor and Eckert scored an 8.625 for 20th in the event.

Senior Sarah Malone scored an 8.300 for 14th place in beam, with Eckert added an 8.150 for 18th.

Bates topped HNHS on the bars with a 20th place tally of 7.800. Korporal added 22nd place with a 7.675 and Malone had a 6.800 for 30th place.
