Lady Vike netgirls suffer first loss of season

Only Kassidy Thompson at second singles earned a win as the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity tennis team dropped a 1-4 decision to visiting Marion on Friday, April 20.

Thompson, a senior, squeaked past Makenzie Nelson, 6-4, 7-6, but the Lady Vikings dropped to 5-1 on the season.

The first doubles team of Macy Wohlford and Jule Nogaj pushed Maria Porter and Elizabeth Wuertley to three sets before falling, 6-4, 5-7, 0-6.

The second doubles team of Braxtyn Maroney and Leann Ringenberg lost 4-6, 0-6, to Courtney Kreischer and Sophia Kitts.

At first singles, Jenna Henline was blanked by Kayla Dubuque, 0-6, 0-6, and at third singles Tarah Zumbrun got beaten by Claire Hendricks, 1-6, 1-6.

The Huntington North junior varsity fell to 4-2 with a 1-9 loss.

The lone HNHS bright spot was the doubles team of Gabby Haneline and Sydney Smekens, which recorded a 6-0 triumph.
