Lady Vike netgirls upend Bellmont

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity tennis team upended host Bellmont, 4-1, on Tuesday, May 1.

The Lady Vikings, 8-1, 3-0 in the Northeast 8 Conference, got a pair of wins in singles play. In the second match, senior Kassidy Thompson dispatched Cassity Lincoln, 6-3, 6-0, while senior Tarah Zumbrun, in the third tilt, topped Janae Butler by a margin of 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, seniors Braxtyn Maroney and Leann Ringenberg triumphed in a three-setter versus Mackenzie Hackman and Kelsey Dohrman in the No. 2 match. Maroney and Ringenberg took the first set, 6-1, before losing the second, 4-6. The Lady Viking duo bounced back, though, playing to a 6-6 tie in the third frame that it eventually won, 7-3, in a tiebreaker set.
Huntington North’s top doubles duo of junior Macy Wohlford and junior Jule Nogaj had an easier go of it in their match, routing Julianna Hammond and Rylie Houser, 6-1, 6-1, to round out the team’s wins.

The Lady Vikings’ lone loss on the day came at first singles, where junior Jessica Henline got edged by Carrington Bultemeier in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.

Huntington North lost the junior varsity match, 4-7, to fall to 6-3, 2-1 in conference.

Doubles play yielded the Lady Vikings’ quartet of wins. Triumphing for the team were the duos of junior Emily Bokel and sophomore Emily Daas, junior Sydney Smekens and sophomore Maisy Kesler, senior Gabi Haneline and junior Julia Crist and sophomore Haileigh Nissley and freshman Chloe Hart.
