Foresters close out regular season with loss to SAU

The Huntington University baseball team closed out the regular season with a 10-8 defeat to host Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, May 1.

The Foresters opened the game with a bang, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Cougars, however, proceeded to outscore their guests by a margin of 8-2 over the following three frames to craft an 8-5 advantage. Coach Mike Frame’s squad then logged solo tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, but the hosts scored solo tallies of their own in the fifth and seventh to keep Huntington at bay.

With the loss, the Foresters finish the regular season 18-22, 16-10 in Crossroads League action.

Huntington banged out 12 hits for the game. Senior Jamar Weaver led the team with three hits and two runs batted in. Senior Tyler Zimske and freshman Nick Davit both chipped in two hits and as many RBI. Sophomore Donovan Clark added a pair of hits while senior Kyle Selvey scored a team-best three runs.

Ryan Bethel took the loss for the Foresters. The senior, 1-1, allowed six hits and six runs, half of which were earned, over the game’s first three innings. He also walked three and struck out two.

Sophomore Alex McCutcheon tossed the final five innings for Huntington, permitting seven hits and four runs, two earned, while fanning two and walking a pair.

With the win, Spring Arbor improves to 25-24, 15-12 in league play.
