Lesperance leads Vikings to 15th win

Elliott Lesperance led the Huntington North High School varsity baseball team to a 12-2 rout of visiting South Side on Wednesday, May 2.

Lesperance pitched the Vikings to the win and also led them at the plate. The senior smacked a triple, drove in three runs and crossed home plate twice himself.

Huntington North, 15-1, registered eight hits for the game. The hosts actually trailed South Side after the first inning, 2-1, but erupted for 11 runs over the ensuing frames while shutting out the Archers to bring the contest to an end after five innings. The biggest frame for Coach Jared Hammel’s squad was the third, which saw it rack up eight runs.

Senior Zach Daugherty supplemented Lesperance’s offensive production with a double and two RBI. Senior Collin Landrum added a game-high two hits and three runs scored.

On the mound, Lesperance tossed the first 4.1 innings, yielding seven hits and the two runs, both of which were earned. The hurler, improving to 5-0, also struck out two and walked one. He was relieved by Daugherty, who recorded the game’s final two outs.

With the loss, South Side falls to 6-8.
