Season ends for Forester women in 12-inning loss

The sixth-seeded Huntington University softball team’s run into the Crossroads League Tournament came to an end Friday, May 4, with a 12-inning loss to Taylor University in Indianapolis.

Taylor’s Courtney Moriarity smacked a walk-off home run off HU reliever Lairen Miller to end the Foresters’ season at 24-26.

The Foresters scored all of their runs in the first two innings. Paige Eichelberger slapped a two-run double in the first inning and Audra Klopfenstein had a run-scoring single in the second.

Taylor scored solo runs in the first and fourth innings but was down to its last out in the seventh with the bases empty before launching the tying rally.

HU loaded the bases in the 11th with one out but Taylor wiggled out of the jam.

HU outhit Taylor, 14-9. Eichelberger had four hits on the day to go along with her two ribbies. Klopfenstein added three hits.

Miller was tagged with the loss. The sophomore threw the final 4.1 frames and gave up three hits and one run, with two strikeouts and a walk.
