HU baseball team wins two more in CL Tournament

The Huntington University baseball team won two games on Monday, May 7, to remain in the hunt for the Crossroads League Tournament title.

The Foresters, 21-23 on the season, defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 10-0, in the morning, then came back to tag Indiana Wesleyan, 11-3, in the afternoonin the tourney at Taylor.

Senior Colton Punches threw shutout ball despite giving up nine hits in the morning game. The senior struck out one and walked two.

His teammates staked him to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, then put up a four-spot in the fourth before adding their final three runs in the last two innings.

Nick Davit and Kyle Selvey each had pair of runs batted in to lead the Foresters, who worked Cougar pitching for 11 hits and 10 walks. Donovan Clark, Jamar Weaver, Adam Roser and Adrian Perez each had a pair of hits.

Mason Shinabery held the powerful IWU offense in check in the second game, yielding only five hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk in the complete-game effort.

His teammates gave him all the runs he would need in a five-run first inning. They added solo runs in the second and seventh frames and put up four more runs in the eighth inning.

Jamar Weaver had four ribbies in the contest, three coming on a bases-loaded double in the eighth inning. Tyler Zimske added three RBI and Adam Roser had two, including a solo home run in the first.

Roser and Clark each had two of the Foresters’ nine hits.

IWU is the number one seed in the tourney.
