Louzada, Forester kickers top No. 15 Madonna

Senior Matheus Louzada’s second goal of the game with just over three minutes remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Huntington University men’s soccer team upset 15th-ranked Madonna University, 3-1, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Auburn YMCA.

Noah Fleming added a tap-in goal about 90 seconds later to guarantee the Foresters their first win over a Top 20 team in almost two years.

Louzada, from Brazil, scored the game’s only goal in the first half when he used a Jake Erlandson assist to hit paydirt at 33:23. Madonna tied the contest at the 66:30 mark on a Yuri Farkas goal, and the count stayed that way until the Foresters’ Ty Sproat found Travis Hurtis on the flank, and he served the ball into the box, where a crashing Louzada got his head on it for his eighth career game-winner.

The offensive heroics made a winner of sophomore goalkeeper Gabe Greenfield, getting his first start in the HU goal. The sophomore transfer stopped four shots on the day.
