Lady Vikes second at own volleyball invite

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team lost to Heritage, 0-2, in the championship match of the Huntington North Varsity Volleyball Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 25.

The Lady Vikes, 7-4, won two of three matches in pool play to get to the title match but fell to Heritage, 12-25, 21-25.

The Lady Vikes started off the day with a 25-13, 25-19 win over Clinton Prairie before downing Maconaquah, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9. They then lost to Pendleton Heights, 2-1, on scores of 16-25, 25-16, 14-16.

Heritage came out of pool play unscathed. It beat McCutcheon, 2-1, took a 2-0 win over Northridge and topped Tipton, 2-1.

Macy Niswander led the Huntington North offense with 48 kills and seven aces. The senior also made her presence felt on defense, registering a team-high 11 blocks.

Senior Maddy Robrock contributed 20 kills to the Lady Vikings’ offensive effort while junior Morgan Richison chipped in 15. Junior Morgan Robrock logged 10 kills and served up seven aces. Seniors Brette Fawcett and Lydia Riggers rounded out the team’s big scoring contributions with six and five aces, respectively.

Morgan Robrock and Riggers facilitated the Huntington North offense with 39 and 36 assists, respectively.

Fawcett led the Lady Vikes on defense with 27 digs. Junior Morgan Richison tallied 19 digs while Riggers amassed 18. Morgan Robrock and junior Taylor Reust each recorded five blocks.
