HU netmen suffer first loss of season

The Huntington University men’s tennis team took its first loss of the 2018 season as it came up short against host Marian University on Saturday, Sept. 1.

The Foresters, 2-1, got one win in singles and the other in doubles.

Giovanni Martinez got the singles win at No. 5, outlasting Noah Roberts, 1-6, 7-6, 12-8. Ignacio Poncio and Niko Rongos got the doubles win at No. 1, ditching Diogo Jesus and Ian Deiters, 8-6.

Jesus got revenge over Poncio in singles as Poncio fell, 3-6, 2-6. Illia Turaba at second singles lost to Hunter Sylvester, 5-7, 3-6, Mariano Echevarria at third singles lost to Camilo Mesa, 2-6, 1-6 and Rongos at fourth singles fell to Nathan Bogle, 1-6, 0-6. Sebastian Salas at sixth singles lost to Alex Wittenbaum, 2-6, 2-6.

Martinez and Echevarria lost at second doubles, 5-8, and Turaba and Salas fell at No. 3 doubles to Mesa and Roberts, 6-8.
