Kuiper scores two, knocks in three to lead HU softball to doubleheader win

Brita Kuiper scored two runs and had three RBI to lead the Huntington University softball team to 6-3, 7-1 doubleheader sweep of visiting Saint Francis on Saturday, April 24.

In the opener, Huntington found itself tied 2-2 after the second inning, but RBI singles by Kuiper and Megan Smith allowed three Foresters to cross the plate in the third.

Molly Long took the win for Huntington, allowing two runs on four hits while notching five strikeouts and two walks.

HU totaled four hits, while Melissa Werling had two RBI.
Huntington had eight hits in game two to take the 7-1 win.

Katie Bowers followed HU's first run in the opening inning with her seventh home run of the season. Huntington added three more runs in the fourth, followed by Kuiper's RBI single that scored two more in the seventh.

Saint Francis would prevent a shutout by scoring once in the bottom of the seventh.

Long also had the win in the second match, allowing only two hits and walking one while striking out five.

Kuiper had her other two RBI as well as two hits. Katie Dwyer had two hits and one RBI.
