Foresters defeat Tiffin, 7-2, in 'close' match

The matches were closer than the final score indicated as the Huntington University men’s tennis team defeated visiting Tiffin University, 7-2.

Despite the lopsided score giving HU its fifth win in six outings, two of the three doubles matches went to tie-breaks and a pair of singles matches went to three sets.

The Foresters wound up winning five of six singles matches. Ignacio Poncio at first singles defeated Nikita Parfenov, 6-2, 6-4; Illia Turaba at second singles beat Tom Arias, 6-2, 6-3; Mariano Echevarria at third singles topped Hugo Chatras, 7-6, 6-7, 12-10; Giovanni Martinez at fifth singles defeated Justin Kopronica, 6-4, 6-3; and Sebastian Salas at sixth singles routed Ryan Gase, 6-0, 6-1.

At first doubles, Poncio and Niko Rongos topped Parfenov and Arias, 9-8, and Martinez and Salas took an 8-4 decision from Kopronica and Gase.
