DeKalb runs past Vikings

DeKalb ran early and often and hung the Huntington North High School varsity football team with a 42-0 defeat on Friday, Sept. 21.

The host Barons racked up 371 yards on the ground against the Vikings, with five players rushing for 40 or more yards. Behind that potent ground game, DeKalb crafted a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, expanded it to 21-0 by halftime and 28-0 after three quarters before rounding out the game’s scoring with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth.

The Vikings, 2-4, 1-4 in the Northeast 8 Conference, were held to 92 yards offensively. Quarterback Brett Kaylor produced all of those yards, completing 11 of 29 passes. Wide receivers Andrew Smekens and Zach Hubartt registered 44 and 39 receiving yards, respectively.

Defensively, Charlie Agnew paced all Huntington North tacklers with eight stops.

With the win, DeKalb improves to 3-3, 2-2 in conference play.
