HU netwomen win one, lose one by sweep

It was a day of big swings for the Huntington University women’s tennis team as it got swept but then swept another opponent in a pair of matches at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Foresters got blanked by the hosts, 0-9, to start the day, but then pounced on Judson, 5-0, to push to 7-3 on the season.

The Judson match only went long enough to determine HU was the winner as the four matches in action did not finish their play. The Foresters wept through the doubles and then got singles wins from Lisa Colling at No. 3 and Marla Odendahl at sixth to claim the “W.”

Meg Dolde and Morgan Fitzpatrick at first doubles beat Sofia Garza and Irina Iacob, 8-4; Colling and Lanae Singleton at second doubles topped Ellen Binnion and Martha Banda, 8-6; and Anastasiia Evstifeeva and Odendahl defeated Romero and Georgia Redmond, 8-0.

Colling then topped Banda, 6-3, 6-1, and Odendahl stopped Lauren Janecek, 6-1, 6-3.

In the opening match, Dolde at first singles lost to Lizzie Bauss, 3-6, 5-7; Fitzpatrick at second singles lost in a tiebreak, 6-4, 1-6, 6-10, to Alex Mella; Colling at third  lost to Maddie Bemisderfer, 1-6, 2-6; Evstifeeva at fourth fell to Thewuni Debaraja, 2-6, 0-6, Singleton at fifth was a 2-6, 0-6 loser to Marissa Klein; and Odendahl lost to Laura Moore at No. 6, 0-6, 2-6.

In doubles, Dolde and Fitzpatrick lost to Mella and Bauss, 6-8; Colling and Singleton were stopped at No. 2, 1-8, by Bemisderfer and Devaraja; and Evstifeeva and Odendahl lost 1-8 to Moore and Klein at third.
