Top-seed IWU stops HU netmen at CL tourney

Top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University knocked the Huntington University men’s tennis team out of the Crossroads League Tournament by handing the Foresters a 1-5 loss on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Sebastian Salas and Giovanni Martinez teamed up for the only HU win of the day, taking an 8-6 win over Tyler Abbott and Andrew Block at third doubles.

The Foresters finish the fall portion of their schedule with a record of 8-5.

In other matches completed before IWU had enough wins to end the match, Ignacio Poncio and Niko Rongos at first doubles lost 5-8 to Eli Steiner and Grant Esposito and Illia Turaba and Mariano Echevarria at second doubles lost an 8-9 thriller to Diego Freire and Riley Worland. In singles, Poncio lost at first to Steiner, 1-6, 4-6; Echevarria at third lost 3-6, 2-6 to Esposito; and Salas at fourth fell to Abbott, 0-6, 2-6.
