HU's Dirr earns third trip to NAIA cross country nationals

Huntington University senior Aspen Dirr earned her third trip to the NAIA National Championships to pace the Foresters to an eighth place finish on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Taylor University.

Dirr finished fourth overall in a season-best 18:40.0 over the 5K course to become just the third female runner in HU history to qualify for nationals as an individual three times.

Saige Norris came in next for the Foresters in 26th place with a time of 19:53.2.

HU’s next five runners finished within eight spots of each other. Mara McFalrland was 54th in 21:24.6, Olivia Von Gunten was 55th in 21:28.5, Molly Mitchell was 57th in 21:38.5, Isabel Hunter was 58th in 21:49.2 and Lauren Craig was 61st in 22:02.4.

Taylor, ranked second in the nation, easily won the meet with 17 points. Taylor took the top three spots before Dirr’s finish, then took the next two after Dirr.

Indiana Welseyan was second with 67 points. Mount Vernon was third with 118 points. HU scored 196 for its finish.
