Foresters scrap out win after early lead disappears

A 16-point first half lead didn’t hold up but the Huntington University women’s basketball team scrapped out a 59-55 win over host Rochester College on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The Foresters, 5-1, were up 27-11 midway through the second quarter, but Rochester, 6-1, fought back to take the lead at 33-32 early in the third quarter. After several lead changes in the frame, HU went into the final quarter with a 46-43 advantage and was able to hang on.

Sarah Fryman led the way for HU with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Maddie Richer added 14 points and Brooke Saylor and Erica Zook each chipped in 10 points. Richer scored eight of her points in the opening frame as HU opened a 19-9 lead in the quarter.

Rio Dudgeon and Casey Bowdell each scored nine points to lead Rochester.

HU hit 19 of 46 shots from the field for 41.3 percent but really helped itself with an 18 of 22 showing at the free-throw line for 81.8 percent. The hosts hit 21 of 52 from the field for 40.4 percent and added a 7 of 12 showing from the foul stripe for 58.3 percent.

Zook had three assists to lead HU in that category.

Rochester won the battle of the boards, 30-26.
