Frosh Baker qualifies four times for gymnastics regional

Huntington North High School freshman Jessica Baker won the balance beam and qualified for regional in four events at the Muncie Central Girls' Gymnastics Sectional on Saturday, March 7.

The Lady Vikings as a team finished fourth, missing by one spot of advancing on to next week's regional, to be held Friday, March 13, at North Arena.

HNHS scored a 96.600. Marion won the team contest with 101.975 points, Jay County finished second with 98.213 and Muncie Central got the last qualifying spot with a 96.975.

Twelve teams competed.

In addition to the beam, Baker qualified for regional in the vault, uneven bars and the all-around.

The frosh was the class of the beam with a score of 9.000. She tied for fourth in the vault, with a score of 9.100; finished tied for sixth on the bars, with a score of 8.350; and placed fourth in the all-around competition with a total of 34.800.

The top six finishers in each event advanced to regional.

Baker placed eighth on the floor, with a score of 8.350.

Even with Baker winning beam, the Lady Vikes actually did their best in vault, placing second as a team with 26.200 points. Following Baker's fourth, sophomore Macy Good scored 8.600 for 12th place and fellow sophomore Olivia Eckert scored an 8.500 for 17th place.

The Lady Vikings placed third as a team on beam, scoring 24.400 points. Eckert added 7.925 points for 14th place and senior Maryssa Campbell added 7.475 points for 21st.
Eckert and Campbell backed up Baker on bars, scoring 7.850 and 6.250 points, respectively, for 12th and 25th place finishes.

The same pair also scored on the floor. Eckert tallied 7.750 for 14th place, and Campbell netted 7.450 for 17th place.

Eckert finished 13th in the all-around, with 32.025 points, and Campbell was 18th, scoring 29.625.
