Forester women edged by Cumberland

The Huntington University women’s basketball team got edged by visiting Cumberland University, 69-62, on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Foresters led 17-15 after the first quarter and 29-28 at halftime. The Phoenix seized the lead in the third quarter, 43-42, then outscored the hosts by six in the final frame to seal the win.

Huntington, 9-5, was paced by junior Sarah Fryman, who scored 14 points. Senior Brooke Saylor and sophomore Sam Hammel both tallied 13 points.

Saylor also collected 12 rebounds for the Foresters to record a double-double. The hosts ultimately finished with 36 boards to the 38 for the Phoenix.

Huntington hit 19 of 57 shots from the field for 33.3 percent and 21 of 27 free throws for 77.8 percent.

Cumberland, 3-8, was led by Devon Burns, who tossed in 17 points.

The Phoenix converted 26 of 55 field goal attempts for 47.3 percent and 10 of 13 freebie opportunities for 76.9 percent.
