HU softball team drops doubleheader to Robert Morris

Robert Morris University proved too much to handle for the Huntington University softball team, as HU fell 3-2 and 6-5 on Saturday, May 1.

Huntington, 19-19, took leads early in both games, but Robert Morris was able to strike back each time for the win.

In game one, the Foresters built a 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning after runs in the first and sixth frames. However, the Eagles got the winning runs when Jessica Walsh hit a bunt and used two HU fielding miscues to score two teammates and then herself.

Molly Long had the loss for Huntington, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while notching 10 strikeouts.

Katie Bowers and Brita Kuiper led at the plate with two hits and an RBI each.

The second match proved no better for Huntington. Again securing a 2-0 lead by the top of the second, RMU kicked back by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

The Eagles would score two more runs in the fourth inning before Bowers hit a three-run home run, but HU couldn't get the additional score to lose the game.

Stacie Rawnsley took the fall for the Foresters, giving up six runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks.

Melissa Werling went 3 for 4 at the plate and had a homer while Bowers finished with two hits and three RBI.
