Vikings lock down on Concordia in 52-37 win

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team limited visiting Fort Wayne Concordia to single digits in two of the four quarters and wound up a 52-37 winner on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Seniors Hank Pulver, Zach Daugherty and Sawyer Stoltz led the way for HNHS, 10-3, with 14, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Fellow senior Keegan Bartrom added eight points.

The Vikings and Cadets played to a 13-all tie in the first eight minutes, but the Vikings handcuffed the visitors with just four points in the second frame, giving HNHS a 23-17 halftime lead. The Vikes expanded the margin in the third quarter to 40-31, and then outscored the Cadets 12-6 in the final frame.

Brayden Pearson led Concordia, 7-4, with 13 points.

The Vikings hit 22 of 38 shots from the field for 57.9 percent and added 2 of 5 from the free-throw line for 40 percent. The Cadets hit 12 of 38 from the field for 31.6 percent. A 9 of 11 showing at the foul stripe for 81.8 percent kept the score respectable.

Pulver led HNHS to a 23-17 rebounding advantage by corralling nine boards. He and Daugherty each passed out three assists.

The Viking junior varsity upped its season mark to 8-1 with a 48-41 win.

Aidan Hosler topped HNHS with 11 points. Dominic Cardwell scored nine points, Mitchell Gerber and Zach Hubartt each scored eight and Reid Johnson had seven.
