HNHS swimmers sixth at NE8 meet

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity swim team finished sixth at the Northeast 8 Conference Championship Meet on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Norwell.

The Vikings were paced by Keegan Mautz, who produced a pair of top 10 finishes. The senior claimed sixth in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:24.48, and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle, in :57.63.

Freshman Colt Schulte also posted a sixth place finish for Huntington North, touching the wall in 1:04.57 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Schulte and Mautz, along with junior Nathan York and sophomore Cole Davidson, achieved two top five placements in relay races. The quartet took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay, stopping the timer in 1:58.35, and fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 4:00.04.

Individually, York attained seventh in the 100-yard butterfly and eighth in the 100 backstroke. The junior finished the butterfly in 1:08.85 and the backstroke in 1:07.78. Davidson placed ninth in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 6:03.16, and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking it at 1:18.51, to round out the Vikings’ top 10 finishes.

Columbia City claimed the conference crown with a score of 342. Norwell was second with a register of 293, followed by East Noble, 234; Bellmont, 147; DeKalb, 104; and Huntington North, 84.
