Lady Eagles rain 3s on Lady Vikes

Strong three-point shooting helped host Columbia City stick the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team with a 67-47 loss on Monday, Jan. 14.

The Lady Eagles hit 10 treys in 16 attempts. Olivia Shearer highlighted that showing with a 5 of 7 effort from beyond the arc.

Behind that solid long-range marksmanship, Columbia City took a 16-6 lead in the first quarter, went into the half up 28-20 and took a 54-33 advantage into the final frame.

Huntington North, 6-12, 3-2 in the Northeast 8 Conference, was led by Maddy Robrock. The senior scored a game-best 22 points, hitting 9 of 15 shots from the field. She also corralled a contest-high 10 rebounds, logging a double-double.

Senior Peyton Dorsett supplemented Robrock’s production with nine points and eight boards.

Huntington North finished with 27 rebounds, which matched Columbia City’s production.

The Lady Vikings hit 20 of 44 shots from the field for 45.5 percent. They went 5 of 10 at the free-throw line for 50 percent.

Shearer finished with 17 points to lead Columbia City, 11-10, 3-2 in conference.

The Lady Eagles converted 27 of 52 field goal attempts for 51.9 percent and 3 of 6 freebie tries for 50 percent.

Huntington North also lost the junior varsity contest, 27-16.

The Lady Vikes, 11-6, were paced by sophomore Grace Gross, who totaled eight points.
