Forester men fall in game of swings

In a game of swings, the Huntington University men’s basketball team fell to host Grace College, 77-75, on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The Foresters, 16-13 overall and 6-11 in the Crossroads League, were down big after the first 10 minutes at 26-12, but a 27-7 run late in the half earned them a 39-33 halftime lead.  They expanded the margin to 14 at 56-42 just six minutes into the second half, but the Lancers used their own big run to knot the contest at 63-63 with eight minutes left.

Grace took the lead for good at 70-68 with 5:59 left in the game and got the lead as high as six points, but Konner Platt drained a three at the two-minute mark to make things interesting. Platt scored in the paint with 17 seconds to bring HU within a point at 76-75.

Platt finished with 20 points, hitting 7 of 11 hosts from the field -- including 4 of 6 from downtown. He also added four assists on the night.

Zac Owens added 18 points and six assists for HU, while Peyton West had nine points and a game-high 11 boards.

Grace, 14-15 overall and 4-13 in the CL, was led by Logan Godfrey with 20 points. Haden Deaton and Charlie Warner each knocked in 17 points and Braxton Linville added 13 points.

The Foresters hit 28 of 54 shots form the field for 51.9 percent on the evening and went 10 of 13 from the stripe for 76.9 percent. The Lancers hit 31 of 56 from the field for 55.4 percent and added 8 of 12 from the stripe for 66.7 percent.

James Gardner had four steals off the bench for HU.
