Platt's 31 not enough for HU in loss to No. 17 Pilots

Konner Platt pumped in 31 points but the Huntington University men’s basketball team came up short against visiting No. 17 Bethel College, 89-82, on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16.

Platt’s season-best offensive output came on the wings of a 12 of 19 shooting performance, which included 7 of 8 from two-point range. The junior also added four asissts and a pair of steals, but it was not enough to keep HU from dropping to 16-14 on the season.

Eleven of HU’s losses have come against ranked opponents.

Caleb Middlesworth added 20 points and Zac Owens had 19 for HU.

Bethel’s guard tandem of Trey’von Covington and Trevion Crews knocked in 24 and 23 points, respectively, to help Bethel improve to 21-9 on the season. Paul Forman added a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Foresters hit 27 of 58 shots from the field for 46.6 percent and added 15 of 21 from the free-throw line for 71.4 percent. The Pilots hit 30 of 55 from the field for 54.5 percent and hit 17 of 23 from the stripe for 73.9 percent.

Owens added team-highs of five rebounds and five assists to the HU cause.

HU lost the battle of the boards, 35-28.
