Lady Vikes open softball season with loss

The Huntington North High School varsity softball team opened its season with an 8-4 loss to host Angola on Tuesday, April 2.

The teams were deadlocked, 1-1, through four innings, but the Lady Hornets went off in the fifth, tallying six runs to blow the game open. After the teams traded solo tallies in the sixth frame, the Lady Vikings scored two runs in the seventh, but couldn’t muster any more.

Huntington North, 0-1, was paced by sophomore Carly Collins, who registered a hit and two runs batted in. Junior Laney Shaw added a hit and an RBI while freshman Megan Stephan supplied the team’s other RBI.

Sydney Selvage pitched the first five innings for the Lady Vikings, yielding nine hits and seven runs, five of which were earned, to take the loss.
