Relays victories help push Lady Vikes past Bellmont on track

Winning all three relays paid off nicely for the Huntington North High School girls’ track team in a 71-60 win over visiting Bellmont on Tuesday, April 9.

The Lady Vikings also got five individual wins on the afternoon, three coming on the track and two in field events.

Kyler Hoopingarner and Brooke Goodrich both got solo wins and were part of  winning relay teams. Hoopingarner took the 800-meter run in 2:34.9 and joined with Alena Miller, Hanna Whitney and Lisa Nalliah to win the 3,200-meter relay, in 11:20.8. Goodrich won the 300-meter hurdles in :50.7 and teamed with Allie Aschliman, Meg McDonald and Whitney to win the 1,600-mter relay, in 4:41.7.

The 400-meter relay team won in :55.2 and was made up of Lily Clanin, Makenna Shearer, Grace Gross and Peyton Dorsett.

Freshman Addy Wiley got the remaining HNHS win on the track, going 11:33.0 to take the 3,200-meter run.

Preslee Williams took the high jump at 4-10 and Dorsett captured the long jump at 15-02.5 for the final two HNHS wins.

Williams added to her day with second in the 200-meter dash, in :28.3. McDonald was runner-up in the 400-meter dash, in 1:06.8, Miller was second in the 800, in 2:35.8 and Kendyl Coles was second in the 1,600-meter run, in 6:29.0. Dorsett added second in the high jump at 4-06, Russell was second in the pole vault at 9-0, Faith Leist was runner-up in the shot put at 29-10 and Russell was second in the discus at 83-07.

Dorsett also took third for HNHS in the 100-meter dash and Clanin took the same placing in the 200. Also taking thirds were Christine Hiday in the 400, Marian Garner  in the 100 hurdles, Russell in the shot put and Maddie Husband in the discus.
