Northrop scores late to beat Vikings

Visiting Fort Wayne Northrop scored five unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat the Huntington North High School baseball team, 12-8, on Tuesday, April 16.

The Vikings got a home run from Keegan Bartrom and scored five runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead before the Bruins came back to hand HNHS its sixth defeat against two wins on the season.

Bartrom wound up with three hits and four runs batted in. Zach Daugherty had a hit and two RBI and Mason Anderson, Nathan Hall and Lucas Thorn each had two hits. The Vikings had 12 for the contest.

Northrop scored a pair of runs in thee first inning, one in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth before adding on the five in the final two frames. The Bruins managed 14 hits.

Trey Williams went the first three innings on the mound for HNHS, yielding six runs, five earned, on eight hits, with a strikeout and two walks. Hall got tagged for the loss, throwing 2.1 innings and yielding three earned runs on two hits, with one strikeout and three walks. Nicholas Johnson pitched .1 inning and gave up one run, Zach Daugherty went 1 inning and gave up two earned urns on four hits, with a strikeout and walk, and Bartrom closed out the final .1 with a strikeout.
