HU spikers open season with split

The Huntington University volleyball team opened its season by splitting two matches on the day on Friday, Aug. 16, dropping its first match to Brescia University, 3-0, before getting a five-set win over Baker University on the first day of the Foresters Invitational.

The Foresters were on the verge of getting their second loss of the day in the match against Baker, being down 1-2, but the Foresters took the lasts two games, 15-18, 15-10, to come away with the first win for new Head Coach Kelsey Herber.

The Foresters won the opener against Baker, 25-22, but lost the second and third games, 22-25, 26-28.

Paige Eakright helped earn the win with 17 kills and 17 digs. Jennings Tacosik added 12 kills, 41 assists and four aces, and Brandy Michie and Brea Metz finished with nine and eight kills, respectively.

Ariene Butler led the defensive charge with 27 digs, including the 1,000th of her career at HU. Nicole Flickinger added 10 kills to the cause.

Brescia ran through HU in the opener, 25-19, 25-14, 25-15.

Eakright had nine kills and Tacosik had eight kills and 16 assists.
