HNHS netboys start with loss

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team opened its season with a 2-3 defeat to visiting Warsaw on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The Vikings’ pair of wins came at first and second singles. Sophomore Carson Kitchen dominated the No. 1 match, triumphing 6-0, 6-0, and while junior Thomas Schweller made similarly quick work of his opponent in the second contest, winning 6-1, 6-0.

The third solo tilt saw Matthew Weill fall 6-7 (4-7), 5-7.

In doubles play, senior Isaac Eckert and junior Noah Zahn lost the top match, 6-7 (4-7), 4-6. Sophomores Jacob Daugherty and Reid Eckert rounded out the competition with a 2-6, 1-6 setback in the No. 2 contest for Huntington North, 0-1.

The Vikings also lost the junior varsity contest, 3-5.

Huntington North, 0-1, got wins in singles action from Nick Johnson and Alex Kramer and a doubles triumph from Chase Mickley and Bryce Colclesser.
