Peru blanks Vike netboys

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team took one on the chin as it got blanked by host Peru, 0-5, on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The closest the Vikings came to sniffing a win came from the second doubles team of sophomores Jacob Daugherty and Reid Eckert as they pushed the Tigers’ Gabe Becker and Ben Beckner to three sets before falling, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In singles, No. 1 player Carson Kitchen absorbed a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Ryan Smith. At second, Thomas Schweller fell to Leif Asrup, 1-6, 1-6, and at No. 3 Mathew Weill lost to Bradley Ryan, 1-6, 0-6.

The Vikings first doubles team of Noah Zahn and Isaac Eckert lost to Christopher Dicken and Grayson Spahn, 0-6, 3-6.

The Vikings are now 0-2 on the season.

The Vikes’ junior varsity squad fell 0-6 to also go to 0-2 on the season.
