Viking harriers 12th at own invitational

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity cross country team placed 12th among 17 teams at its own Huntington North Cross County Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Sophomore Harrison Niswander led the way for Huntington North by placing 33rd among scoring runners with a time of 17:05.1, helping HNHS to a team score of 310 points. Fort Wayne Concordia won the meet with a score of 53 points.

JT York was second runner for the Vikings by placing 53rd in 17:39.2, and Greg Miller placed 70th in 18:16.8. Isaiah Clampitt finished 74th in 18:26.0 and Dane Blackburn rounded out the team scoring with 80th place in 18:39.0.

Connor Miller and Clayton Johnson finished as the non-scoring sixth and seventh runners, respectively, finishing in 84th place in 18:59.1 and 96th place in 19:09.8.

Homestead was runner-up in the team competition, scoring 88 points. Noblesville placed third with 97 points, West Noble was fourth with 109 points and Columbia City was fifth with 141 points.

Reece Gibson of Concordia was the individual champion, finishing in 15:38.6 to win by two seconds over Travis Hickner of Noblesville.
