Three-set win by No. 2 doubles gives HNHS netboys victory over Leo

A three-set victory at No. 2 doubles proved the difference for the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team in a 3-2 win over visiting Leo on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Sophomores Matthew Weill and Reid Eckert won the first set against Douglas Lamont and Alex Creslinski, 6-3, dropped the second, 4-6 but managed a 6-3 win in the deciding set to push HNHS to 3-1 in the Northeast 8 Conference, 6-8 overall.

Carson Kitchen at first singles won a tight one against Aaron Brandenberger, 6-4, 7-6, and the first doubles team of Noah Zahn and Thomas Schweller came up with a 6-1, 6-0 win over their opponents.

Isaac Eckert at second singles lost to Garrison Miller, 4-6, 1-6, and Jacob Daugherty at third singles lost to Matthew Boxberger, 4-6, 2-6.

Leo won four of the five junior varsity matches as HNHS dropped to 4-9 at that level. The duo of Chase Mickley and Nick Johnson topped Mikey Roselle and Jacob Mertz, 8-3, for the lone HNHS triumph.
