HNHS netboys triumph over Northrop

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team triumphed over host Northrop, 4-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The Vikings picked up half their wins with a sweep of doubles play. In the first match, juniors Noah Zahn and Thomas Schweller logged a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Clayton Jagger and Johnny Tran. The second tilt saw sophomores Matthew Weill and Reid Eckert dispatch Kyle Heller and Dakota Mace with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Huntington North’s remaining wins came at first and third singles. In the No. 3 match, sophomore Jacob Daugherty blanked Josiah Schmucker, 6-0, 6-0. The first contest saw sophomore Carson Kitchen beat Evan Kytta, 6-1, 6-3.

The Vikings’ lone loss on the day came at second singles, where senior Isaac Eckert fell to Aiden Baker, 6-1, 3-6 (8-10). As Huntington North had already won the match, Eckert and Baker played a super tiebreaker to 10 points rather than a full third set.

With the win, the Vikings improve to 8-10.

Huntington North also won the junior varsity match, 3-0, to improve to 6-10-1.

The Vikes got wins from sophomores Chase Mickley and Alex Kramer and the junior duo of Nick Johnson and Bryce Thompson.
