Viking harriers heading to regional

The Huntington North High School boys cross country team earned its way to regional next week by placing third at the Marion Boys’ Cross Country Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Vikings scored 89 points to be one of the top five teams and thus qualify for the return trip to Marion.

Oak Hill won the team title with 41 points, followed by Wabash with 55 points. Eastbrook with 98 points and Marion with 178 were the last two qualifiers among the 11 teams at the meet.

Senior Isaiah Clampitt and freshman Jordan Rockey led the way for HNHS placing placing 13th and 14th, respectively, in 17:00.1 and 17:01.0 on the 5K course at Indiana Wesleyan University. Sophomore Harrison Niswander placed 16th in 17:03.3, sophomore Jonathan York was 19th in 17:16.1 and sophomore Gavin Byerly was 27th in 17:52.3.

Completing the Vikings’s squad, Connor Miller placed 29th in 18:04.2 and Gregory Miller was 38th in 18:24.2.

Dereck Vogel of Wabash won the individual race in 15:55.8, with Braden Sweet of Southwood runner-up in 5:13.0.

The top 10 individuals whose teams do not advance get to compete as individuals.
