Wiley takes sectional title as Lady Vikes qualify for regional
Sophomore Addy Wiley won the individual crown to lead Huntington North High School to a regional-qualifying second place finish at the Marion Girls’ Cross Country Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion.
Wiley crossed the finish line in 18:16.5 for the 5K to top Mollie Gamble of Oak Hill by a little more than three seconds.
Junior Hanna Whitney backed up Wiley’s performance by placing fourth in 19:53.2 and fellow senior Meg McDonald claimed eighth in 20:48.4.
Sophomore Anna Guerre took 15th in 22:07.5 and junior Leslie Zook placed 20th in 23:15 to explain the Lady Vikings’ total of 48 points.
Oak Hill won the team race with a score of 28. Mississinewa was third with 104 points, Blackford was fourth with 112 points and Madison-Grant was the fifth and final qualifier among the seven teams competing with a register of 135.
Regional will be back at IWU on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Completing the HNHS squad, senior Kendyl Coles placed 24th in 23:28.0 and junior Naomi Richison was 28th in 24:43.9.
The top 10 individuals whose teams did not advance also qualify to compete at regional.
