Wiley's winning effort helps Lady Vike harriers advance to semi-state

Addy Wiley’s individual championship helped the Huntington North High School girls’ cross country team grab the fifth and final advancing place at the Marion Girls’ Cross Country Regional on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The Lady Vikes’ sophomore star dashed to the title in 17:53.4 over the 5K course to win by more than 30 seconds over runner-up Abbey Gentz of Woodlan.

Junior Hanna Whitney placed 16th in 20:32.5 as HNHS scored 111 points to earn its spot at the New Haven Semi-State next Saturday, Oct. 26. The score was 19 points better than sixth place Fort Wayne South Side.

Senior Meg McDonald placed 22nd in 20:53.4, sophomore Anna Guerre was 29th in 21:28.9 and junior Lesley Zook wrapped up the Lady Vikes’ scoring with 43rd place in 23:07.1.

Norwell won the team title with 67 points, nipping Oak Hill by a single point. Fort Wayne Bishop Luers placed third with 89 points and South Adams was fourth with 99 points.

Junior Naomi Richison was sixth for HNHS with 49th place in 23:50.9 and senior Kendyl Coles was seventh runner with 53rd place overall in 24:10.9.

Gentz led the 10 individual qualifiers whose teams did not advance.
