HU women rout Holy Cross

The Huntington University women’s basketball team routed host Holy Cross, 81-36, on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Led by senior Sarah Fryman, who scored a game-high 20 points, the Foresters jumped out to an early lead on the Saints and never looked back. Coach Lori Culler’s squad tallied 20 points in the first quarter while holding the hosts to eight, then poured in 25 points in the second while limiting Holy Cross to 10 for a 45-18 halftime advantage. Huntington expanded its lead to 65-27 by the end of three quarters, then outscored the Saints 16-9 in the final frame.

The Foresters, 3-0, got 12 points from junior Sam Hammel and 11 from senior Erin Mohr. Hammel also dished out five assists.

Huntington hit 32 of 59 shots from the field for 54.2 percent and 13 of 18 attempts at the free throw line for 72.2 percent.

Junior Alexandria Bope led the Foresters on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds. Fryman grabbed six caroms.

Holy Cross, 1-3, was paced by Kaelyn Barlow, who scored eight points.

The Saints converted 15 of 64 field goal attempts for 23.4 percent, which included a 3 of 28 showing from beyond the arc for 10.7 percent. The hosts added three points in seven tries at the freebie stripe for 42.9 percent.
