Foresters use 'D' to top Rochester

On a night when neither offense was very potent, the Huntington University women’s basketball team used defense to pull off a 56-45 win over visiting Rochester University on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The Foresters hits only 22 of 64 field goal attempts from the field for 34.4 percent, but limited Rochester to a 14 of 45 performance for 31.1 percent to account for their fourth win of the season in five outings.

Sarah Fryman led the way with 19 points, and Alexandria Bope and Sam Hammel each chipped in with eight. Hammel also added game-highs of 11 rebounds and four assists.

Huntington scored only five points in the last six minutes of the first half, but they were the only points either team scored as the Foresters went into halftime with a 28-23 lead. Rochester, 1-5, could get no closer than three points the rest of the way, while HU had the margin up to 13 points at 53-40 with 4:31 left in the game.

Lexey Tobel led the Warriors with 12 points.

Fryman showed off her versatility by adding seven rebounds, two assists and four steals to her stat line.

Rochester went 14 of 18 from the free-throw line to stay in the contest. HU was 6 of 10 from the stripe.

HU won the battle of the boards, 40-35. Frosh Maddy Robrock came off the HU bench to snare six caroms in 14 minutes of play.
