HNHS swimgirls rout Canterbury

The Huntington North High School girls’ swim team routed visiting Canterbury, 92-68, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The Lady Vikings were led by seniors Allie Aschliman and Laney Shaw and freshman Mya MacAleese, who each posted a pair of first-place finishes. Aschliman won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 2:34.48 and 1:07.28, respectively. Shaw topped the 100 and 200-yard freestyles. She won the shorter race in 1:04.09 and the longer one in 2:27.94. MacAleese triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. She took the freestyle in :28.32 and the breaststroke in 1:19.08.

MacAleese, Shaw and Aschliman also swam legs in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay, which resulted in Huntington North wins. The trio teamed up with freshman Jacee Dammeier in both races, taking the medley in 2:10.31 and the freestyle in 4:23.83.

Alyssa Brinkman registered a pair of silver finishes for the Lady Vikings. The senior swam the 200 freestyle in 2:32.76 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:16.08. Brinkman also swam legs in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays, which saw Huntington North place second and third, respectively. She teamed up with junior Victoria Damsleth-Aalrud, senior Alayna Stroup and junior Bekah Brunner in the 200 freestyle, stopping the timer in 2:10.07. In the 400 freestyle, she joined forces with Brunner, senior Brenna Mason and junior Kaylee Levy; the quartet clocked in at 5:13.07.

Brunner was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 7:08.30. She claimed third in the 100 butterfly in 1:21.70.

Dammeier earned runner-up honors in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 1:09.30. She finished third in the 200 individual medley in 2:49.91.

Mason rounded out the team’s day with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle. She stopped the timer in 8:01.93.

On the boys’ side, Huntington North only had one competitor, Colten Schulte. The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:13.10 and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in :58.42.
