Lady Vike swimmers win big over South Side

Getting eight individual wins and sweeping the relays pushed the Huntington North High School girls’ swim team to a 109-54 blowout win over visiting Fort Wayne South Side on Monday night, Dec. 2.

Allie Aschliman, Mya MacAleese and Laney Shaw were each double winners for the Lady Vikings, 2-1 on the season. Alyssa Brinkman and Jacee Dammeier each got one win apiece.

Aschliman took the 50-meter freestyle and the 500-meter freestyle, winning the sprint in :29.12 and the longer race in 6:17.83. MacAleese took the 200-meter freestyle, in 2:23.89, and the 100-yard butterfly, in 1:10.73, and Shaw won the 200-yard individual medley, in 2:36.72, and the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:24.24.

Dammeier won the 100-yard freestyle 1:07.88, while Brinkman won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.0.

Brinkman, MacAleese, Ashliman and Shaw started off the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay, in 2:11.67. Shaw, Brinkman, Dammeier and MacAleese teamed for the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, in 1:59.31, and Aschliman, Bekah Brunner, Brenna Mason and Dammeier teamed up for the 400-yard freestyle relay win, in 4:50.96.

Brunner added second place points in the 200 free and third place points in the 500 free, while Brinkman also placed second in the 100 fly. Dammeier added second in the backstroke, Mandi Lippe was second in the 200 IM and Kaylee Levy was third in the 100 free.

The two-man boys’ team lost 24-20.

Colten Schulte won the 100 back in 1:01.75 and placed second in the 50 free in :25.66. Jeff Gross won the 100 free, in 1:14.48, and was runner-up in the 200 free, in 2:35.07.

The boys’ team is now 0-2.
