22nd-ranked Foresters lose to 13th-ranked Cougars

The 22nd-ranked Huntington University women’s basketball team fell to 13th-ranked University of Saint Francis, 68-53, on Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Hutzell Athletic Center in Fort Wayne.

The Foresters, 13-3, trailed by only four points at 53-49 entering the fourth quarter, but USF, 12-3, locked things up with a 15-4 advantage in the frame.

Sam Hammel had team-highs of 15 points and five assists to lead HU. Sarah Fryman added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Lauren McBryar topped all scorers with 22 points and Kara Gerka had 14 for Saint Francis.

USF led 18-10 after the first quarter and 34-30 at the end of the first half.

HU hit 22 of 48 shots from the field for 45.8 percent on the afternoon and added 2 of 2 from the foul stripe for 100 percent. USF hit 22 of 51 shots from the field for 43.1 percent and 13 of 19 from the stripe for 68.4 percent.
