Big day by Middlesworth goes for naught in HU loss

A 30-point performance by Caleb Middlesworth wasn’t enough for the Huntington University men’s basketball team as it lost to visiting 21st-ranked University of Saint Francis, 99-86, on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 25.

Middlesworth’s big afternoon came on the strength of hitting six triples, but HU still fell to 10-12 overall, 2-8 in the Crossroads League.

USF, 17-5 overall and 6-4 in the CL, held a 50-40 lead at halftime.

HU also had four other double-figure scorers on the afternoon as the game certainly didn’t lack offense. Peyton West notched 15 points, Spencer Ballinger tossed in 12 points and Andrew Yoder and Konner Platt added 10 points apiece.

Antwaan Cushingberry led USF with 22 points. Jalan Mull had 20 points, Tyler Smith notched 15, Jeffrey Reynolds had 13 and Connor Lautzenheiser added 12.

HU hit 31 of 65 shots from the field for 47.7 percent and added 13 of 14 from the charity stripe for 92.9 percent. USF hit 34 of 66 from the field for 51.5 percent and was perfect on all 15 free throw tries.

Platt had seven rebounds to lead HU on the boards and West led in assists with five.
