Vikings jump off to big start on way to 'W'

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team jumped off to a big start and rolled to a 57-42 win over visiting Bellmont on Saturday night, Jan. 25.

The 5-10 Vikings took a 20-9 lead after the first quarter of play and went  into halftime with a 33-14 advantage. They led 46-27 after three quarters of play.

Deven Newcomb and Sam Thompson led the Vikes with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Jordan Hollowell added 11 points and Mitchell Gerber put in eight.

The Vikes hit 21 of 36 shots from the field for 58.3 percent on the night and added 9 of 13 from the free-throw line for 69.2 percent.

Bellmont, 7-7, got 15 points from Nic Ellsworth and 10 from Kade Fuelling.

The Braves connected on only 11 of 31 shots from the field for 35.4 percent and hit 19 of 27 shots from the free-throw line for 70.4 percent.

Thompson and Zach Hubbart each had three assists for HNHS.

The Huntington North junior varsity won, 32-23.

Will Hotchkiss had nine points and Noah Zahn had six to lead the Vike JV.
