Lady Vike swimmers defeat Marion

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity swim team dispatched host Marion, 95-54, on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

A trio of swimmers won two races apiece for the Lady Vikings. Senior Allie Aschliman topped the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, taking the freestyle in 2:18.80 and the breaststroke in 1:23.00. Senior Laney Shaw put forth golden efforts in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, winning the medley in 2:38.95 and the butterfly in 1:14.07. Freshman Mya MacAleese triumphed in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 6:22.00, and in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:16.14.

Alyssa Brinkman swam to victory in the 100-yard freestyle, stopping the timer in 1:07.39. The senior also claimed second in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at :30.88.

Brinkman, MacAleese, Shaw and Aschliman also competed in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, winning both. The quartet took the medley in 2:17.17 and the freestyle in 4:33.55.

Seniors Alayna Stroup and Brenna Mason and juniors Bekah Brunner and Victoria Damsleth-Aalrud teamed up for the 200-yard freestyle relay, taking second in 2:13.95. Damsleth-Aalrud, Brunner and Mason also teamed up with junior Kaylee Levy and placed third in the 200 medley relay in 2:36.82.

Individually, Brunner posted runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. She swam the IM in 2:51.27 and the freestyle in 1:08.54.

Mason claimed second in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 2:45.78. She also placed third in the 100 backstroke, stopping the timer in 1:30.89.

Damsleth-Aalrud was the bronze finisher in the 50 and 100 freestyles, clocking in at :31.12 and 1:08.88, respectively.
