The Huntington North High School (HNHS) Vikings hosted their first home game of the 2021 season on Friday, Aug. 27, against the Jay County Patriots.

The Viking offense was able to get off to a hot start Friday with a 76 yard touchdown run by Noah Wagner. Wagner was able to score again in the first half, in addition to Luke Teusch scoring twice in the first half. Freshman Jason Teusch added the extra point to make the halftime score 25 - 7 in favor of the Vikings.

In the second half, Huntington North was able to find the endzone two more times. One was a 10- yard touchdown pass from Keagan Landrum to Bailey Landrum, while Garret Johnson ran in the final touchdown of the game. That brought the final score to 45 - 13 to give Huntington North their first win of the season. Offensively, the Vikings ran 52 plays for a total of 446 yards highlighted by 287 of those yards coming in the first half.

After allowing some big plays early on the defensive side of the ball, the HNHS players were able to adjust and shut down the trap, limiting the Patriots to just two touchdowns. One touchdown was scored on the first drive of the game while the other was on the last drive of the game for Jay County.

The Viking pass coverage was led by Colt Hacker’s two interceptions and a huge pass break-up late in the game. The Huntington North defense pressured the Jay County quarterback all night long. Bailey Landrum had two tackles for loss and Dylan Trout added a sack. The defense also added a score as Sam Close recovered a fumble in the third quarter and ran it back for a touchdown.

The Vikings will be back in action next on Friday, Sept. 3, as they travel to Kendallville to take on the East Noble Knights.
