The Legends of Fort Wayne North Side High School traveled to North Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 5, to face the Huntington North High School (HNHS) Vikings and gave the team a run for their money.
Scoring was close in the first quarter, with North Side earning eight to Huntington’s seven. North Side was also the first team to break double digits, shortly into the second quarter. It took a bit, but HNHS finally broke into the lead with a little over two minutes left in the first half.
The lead didn’t last long for the Vikings, as the Legends earned another two-point shot for 19 points. At the end of the first half, HNHS stood just a few points ahead, 22-19.
Lead changes took place frequently over the course of the night. With 3:40 left in the third quarter, the score was tied 28-28, but that too was short lived. With less than a minute left to go before starting quarter four, HNHS stood 37-33. Even then, North Side was able to nearly close the gap, ending quarter three 37-36.
The first few minutes of quarter four made it appear that HNHS had the game in the bag, but even then the Legends of North Side didn’t give up. North Side added 20 points compared to Huntington’s 22, ending the game 59-56 in favor of HNHS.
Zach Hubartt earned 20 points for the Vikings. He was followed by Austin Oswalt with 12 and Wyatt Dohrman with 10.
