Ava Poulson and Mara Hendryx teamed up to hold New Haven to just five hits and one run in a 13-1 Lady Viking win Monday, May 13. Poulson got the win, going four innings, giving up one run on five hits with nine strikeouts while Hendryx pitched a perfect fifth inning to secure the five-inning win. Huntington North led 6-0 after three innings then put the game away with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Poulson also led the way at the plate going 3-3 with four RBIs and three runs, while Corrine Martz was 3-4 with one RBI, and Kinlee Landrum went 2-3 with four RBIs and one run. Kianna Jennings, Emma Helvie, Hendryx, and Madison Ptak each had one hit with Jennings, Helvie, and Ptak each driving in a run. HN 7, Homestead 0 Hendryx pitched a 4-hit shutout with three strikeouts to lead the Lady Vikes to a 7-0 win at Homestead Tuesday, May 16. Huntington North steadily pulled away from the Lady Spartans with one run in each of the first and second innings, added three in the third, and five in the fifth. Poulson, Helvie, and Zoey Stanley each had two hits on the night with Stanley, Reece Douglass, and Landrum each recording an RBI. Hendryx, Martz, and Ptak each had one hit. HN 12, Mississinewa 3 Ptak pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in a 12-3 Lady Viking win at Mississinewa, Wednesday, May 17. Huntington North jumped all over the Lady Indians with five runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the second. The Lady Vikes led 12-0 in the top of the seventh inning before Mississinewa scored their three runs. Jennings had a big night at the plate going 4-5 with four RBIs while Hendryx finished 3-3 with one RBI and two runs, and Martz went 3-5 with three runs scored. Poulson and Ptak each drove in three runs and had one hit, with Helvie going 1-2 with one RBI and two runs, and Douglass picking up one hit with one run. The Lady Vikings finish the regular season with a 22-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 mark to win the NE8 title. They face Columbia City (15-5) in the opening round of the Columbia City Sectional Tuesday, May 22. The Vikings defeated the Eagles, 5-1, on April 26.
