Karst leads HNHS girls' pack to second at Asics-Marion Invitational

Sophomore Robin Karst led another solid pack outing by the Huntington North High School girls' cross country team as it placed second on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Asics-Marion High School Invitational.

Karst placed seventh in 19:32.27 to pace HNHS to a total of 66 points, 21 behind champion Noblesville and 70 ahead of third place finisher Homestead among 24 teams competing.

Senior Natalie Spahr was number two for HNHS with a 12th place finish in 19:49.34, with sophomore teammate Karson Rowe in 13th with a 19:52.22 clocking. Senior Becca Goodman added 16th in 19:57.10, and Kayla Patrick, a third sophomore, placed 18th in 19:58.53 to complete the Lady Vikings' scoring.

Gretchen Spahr was 24th in 20:10.42 and Elaine Yahne was 34th in 20:23.33 as the non-scoring HNHS runners.

Noblesville's title came primarily from having the first, third and fourth-place finishers, with junior Helen Willman taking the top spot with an 18:36.54 time. The final two Noblesville runners placed 15th and 22nd to account for team's total.

Leo placed fourth as a team with 195 points, Fort Wayne Snider was fifth with 197 and Columbia City was sixth with 210 points.

It was all Huntington North in the reserve division as the Lady Vikings grabbed the top four spots and five of the top six to crush everyone with 16 points.

Junior Nicole Smith led the HNHS top four sweep by winning the race in 20:57.25, and was followed across the finish line by junior Cassie Hacker and freshmen Gabby Mason and Paulina Grunden, respectively. Sophomore Marie Ditzler placed sixth.
Hacker clocked in at 21:03.91, Mason finished in 21:04.33, Grunden came home in 21:05.43 and Ditzler crossed at 21:12.52.

The Lady Vikings' top two non-scorers, Kelly Ditzler and Tammy Munro, placed ninth and 14th, respectively.
