HU women sweep 4 over weekend

The Huntington University softball team swept four games in the Judson University Softball Invitational, in Chicago, IL, April 3 and 4.

In game one, the team faced the host team and edged their opponents, the Eagles 5-4.

Pitcher Lauren Ward pitched a complete game, with four runs earned on five hits while striking out nine batters and walking one.

Brittany Gower went 3-4 at the plate, with two RBI, and Brita Kuiper added an RBI.

The team squared off against Trinity International in game two and dominated the contest 8-2. Molly Long claimed the win, with 11 strikeouts, three hits and two unearned runs after six innings.

Gower and Brittney Bateman both had two hits and Kuiper added two RBI.

Pitchers Ashley Scally and Long teamed up for a shutout against Trinity Christian, a game the Lady Foresters won 4-0.

Ashley McCann had two hits during the contest, including a double.

Ward had another strong performance against host team Judson University in the final game, a 2-1 victory. She struck out 10 batters and only allowed one run on three hits and a walk.

Bateman led the Lady Foresters in scoring with a home run in the first inning and RBI single in the third.

The team is 14-8 on the season.
